AIA Japan Update - June 2025

In April, AIA Japan joined Meiji University’s International Program in Architecture and Urban Design (I-AUD) for an evening lecture by Balázs Bognár, AIA Japan 2025 President and partner at Kengo Kuma and Associates, titled “Place-Time Continuum”. That same month, another event of connection, conversation, and material inspiration was held as “Knowledge Sessions” at Cosentino, where Ultracompact Surfaces (UCS)—a high-performance material redefining possibilities in architecture and design- were introduced. April concluded with the exclusive event of AIA International in Japan Azabudai Hills: A New Urban Vision, featuring a guided tour, panel discussion, and social gathering with support from JIA, Mori Building, and North Glass.

In May, members had the rare opportunity to tour the Kiyoshi Seike House, a postwar Japanese modernist landmark, gaining firsthand insight into Seike’s influential design and lasting impact on architecture. We also welcomed Paris-based architecture studio Moreau Kusunoki, for an inspiring evening lecture, “Resilience through Design in Museums”, highlighting their international work on projects like the acclaimed Guggenheim Helsinki proposal and the Centre Pompidou renovation in Paris, as well as the evolving role of museums in contemporary society. Looking ahead, June includes our annual tour to Tokyo’s iconic Gallery Ma. Later in the month, Ebisu Beer and Sketch Nite –an informal gathering for members and friends- returns, following a successful May edition.
