AIA Japan Update - March 2023

The annual AIA Japan Presidents’ Club meeting was held in the Yasuyo building on February 19.

The Yasuyo building was designed by Nobumichi Akashi and completed in 1969. The restaurant occupied the sixth to ninth floors, and the interior was designed by Yoshiro Taniguchi. Now the building has been designated a Cultural Property (文化財).

2023 president Tetsuya Yaguchi, AIA organized a luncheon on the eighth floor and eleven former presidents attended this year.

AIA Japan 2015 President Richard Moriwaki, AIA and 2016 President George Kunihiro, FAIA have been good friends for so many years. This photo was taken at the AIA Japan Presidents’ Club meeting on February 19. Richard and George are holding a photo taken when they graduated from university in 1973!

Richard Moriwaki brought these 1973 AIA San Francisco Convention commemorative stamps to show the group. He plans to present them to AIA National at A'23 in San Francisco in June.

AIA Japan Bar Night Vol. 001 was an informal party, with people coming and going as they pleased. It was great to see the members and guests after so much time. The event was organized by veteran host and former AIA Japan President.
