James Lambiasi, AIA was our featured speaker at our virtual event on July 16 titled “Reverence for Nature, Passion for Precision”. James is a regular host for NHK’s TV documentary series which introduces architecture and local traditions in Japan. In this event, James revisited the centuries-old mechanical doll making tradition, “karakuri-ningyo”, in Gifu, Japan, and suggested that a connection exists with the practice of architecture and construction in modern Japan, where passion for craftsmanship and precision lives on.

You can watch NHK World’s Series on Japanese Architecture, hosted by James, HERE.

The AIA Japan Chapter has a full program of online lectures; please see the AIA Japan website for details. The chapter is also making many of its events available to view and earn credits on demand; please check out the AIA International Past Events archive.
