AIA International Spring Conference 2025: Trailblazing Architecture – A Global Gathering of Innovation

The AIA International Spring Conference 2025, held from March 20–22, was a resounding success, bringing together architects, designers, and thought leaders from around the world. Under the theme Trailblazing Architecture, the event explored cutting-edge innovations, transformative design solutions, and bold strategies shaping the built environment.

A Global Dialogue on the Future of Architecture

AIAISC’25 attracted 1,310 registrants from 80 countries. Spanning 20 time zones—from New Zealand to the U.S. West Coast—attendees engaged in thought-provoking lectures and panel discussions curated by AIA’s seven International Chapters and multiple Sections.

As a fully virtual conference, AIAISC’25 provided an unparalleled platform for global collaboration, featuring live sessions, engaging discussions, and knowledge-sharing opportunities. The 7 International ChaptersCanada, Europe, Hong Kong, Japan, the Middle East, Shanghai, and the United Kingdom—alongside multiple International Sections, curated insightful sessions addressing key challenges and opportunities in contemporary architecture.

Key Highlights from the Conference

Over three days, attendees engaged with renowned architects and industry experts. Notable sessions included:

  • Chris Lepine (Zaha Hadid Architects) – Insights on parametric design and digital innovation.

  • Heath May, FAIA (HKS) – Advancements in sustainable and high-performance design.

  • James Richärd, FAIA (Richärd Kennedy Architects) & Arne Emerson (Morphosis) – Exploring contextual and community-driven architecture.

Other thought-provoking panels tackled AI in architecture, carbon reduction strategies, and equity-driven design practices, fostering meaningful discussions on the profession’s evolving role.

Among the most attended sessions were:

  • David Adjaye’s talk for AIA Sub-Saharan Africa – Exploring architecture’s role in nation-building (302 attendees).

  • AIA Southeast Asia’s session featuring Nam and Linh from Vietnam – Focused on regional architectural innovation (182 attendees).

  • Keynote by Chris Lepine (Zaha Hadid Architects) – A deep dive into parametric design and digital innovation (164 attendees).

A Platform for Continuing Education

The conference also provided a valuable Continuing Education (CES) opportunity, offering 15+ Learning Units (LUs) for AIA members. All sessions were recorded and made available on-demand for attendees to revisit key discussions.
