The AIA Canada Chapter Board engaged in an internal strategy session earlier this fall led by our Director of DEI, Pauline Thimm. The goal was to explore the Mission, Vision, Core Values and Goals of AIA National and how we can best align and implement for our Canadian Members. Our objective was to identify AIA Canada’s core values through a Community Well-being lens and establish our vision and priorities for
the coming year and beyond. The discussion also focused on how as a chapter - our vast geography and likewise vast range of climatic and cultural conditions renders us unique both in challenges to overcome, and in richness and depth of experience and expertise we can share across all of the AIA. From this exercise, we extracted some of the recurring themes under the headings of Social, Cultural, Environmental, Political and Economical (image attached) and plan to engage our membership later
this fall through an online survey with results shared at our AGM at the end of November.
We continue to expand our collaboration with industry partners and professional organisations. This fall, we are providing continuing education on several topics related to Passive House, which include a
three-part introductory series. The sessions cover the basic standards and concepts, building facade design principles and case studies of Passive House projects. We also worked with Passive House Canada to offer courses that are approved for both AIA and PHI educational credits. We received great responses to these webinars and will continue to seek collaborative opportunities in the future.
