AIA Shanghai Update - Dec 2020

AIA Shanghai has had a good conclusion to a challenging year – we filled out our fourth quarter with a series of in-person and online events, concluding with our chapter officer elections and Design Awards Reception.

We had a membership recognition event on September 24, followed by a guided tour of the redesigned Nanjing East Road Pedestrian Street led by Bao Beibei, Director of Landscape Architecture at ECADI and Dr. Zheng Ning of the Historical Building Preservation Design Institute. On November 12, Carlos Gomez, International Assoc AIA, IR City Representative for Beijing, represented our chapter at CTBUH’s winter conference. And on November 17, Treasurer Jason Holland AIA kicked off our chapter’s new Emerging Professionals initiative leading a panel discussion with local firm founding partners.

On Nov 24, we welcomed our members to meet the candidates for chapter office in our Meet the Candidates event. Congratulations to Kathy Zhu, Assoc AIA who will serve as 2021 Vice President / 2022 President Elect. And congratulations to Zijun Johnny Chen, AIA who was elected to the position of 2021-22 Treasurer. We thank all of the candidates who showed a great deal of energy and all have demonstrated excellent service for our chapter and AIA.

On December 5, AIA Shanghai celebrated the winners of our annual Design Awards with a reception at the Paramount Theatre in Shanghai. We had a fantastic evening with 200 guests including friends from RIBA and the Architecture Society of Shanghai China.
