William Solecki’s research focuses on urban environmental change, resilience, and environmental transitions. He has served as leader or co-leader of numerous climate international, national, and local climate impacts studies and assessments including as co-Chair of the New York City on Panel on Climate Change (NPCC) and participated on several IPCC and U.S. National Academy of Science committees and panels. He is a co-founder of the Urban Climate Change Research Network (UCCRN) that now includes approximately 1,000 members and co-editor of the recent Climate Change and Cities Assessment (ARC3) Report published by Cambridge University Press. He also serves as the co-editor of the journals Current Opinion in Environmental, Journal of Extreme Events (he is the founding editor of this journal), and Nature Urban Sustainability. He currently is writing a major book on How Cities Solve Environmental Problems: Lessons for Transformative Urban Climate Action to be published by Cambridge University Press in 2021. He was awarded the American Association of Geographers, Gilbert F. White Distinguished Public Service Honors Award in 2020. His Ph.D. is in Geography (1990) from Rutgers University.
