Derek has played a leading role in the planning and design of large projects for airports and rail terminals in North America, Europe, India, and Asia. He holds advanced degrees in the history of art and architecture, and has lectured and published in a number of fields. He is a Fellow of the American academy in Rome and has taught history and theory of architecture at Columbia University, New York.
