Join us on November 14 for a lecture by Naomi Pollock, FAIA titles, “Exceptional Japanese Houses from 1945 to the Present.”
This lecture will examine the evolution of architect-designed single-family homes in Japan, highlighting the impact of social, technological, economic, and historical developments from the 1940s to the 2020s. Through selected examples, the talk will illustrate how these changes influenced residential design, inviting comparisons in building technologies and household organization across decades. Topics will include the use of timber, steel, and concrete construction, shifts in family structure, evolving spatial functions for eating and sleeping, and the changing role of women in the home.
