AIA Hong Kong - Mass Timber – For The Future Of Our Built Environment
When: Thursday 26 May 2022 @ 07:30 (Eastern US Time)/ 19:30 (Hong Kong time)
CES Credits - 1.5 LU/ HSW for AIA Members
Description
Urban environments are responsible for 75% of annual global Green House Gas emissions; the construction and operation of buildings alone accounts for 39%. Eliminating these emissions is the key to addressing climate change and meeting the Paris Climate Agreement targets.
To address the issue of embodied carbon – and in conjunction with using renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and geothermal – wood presents a unique opportunity since it is the only truly renewable building material. Through modern engineering and digital fabrication the use of wood as a structural element is now possible, with the advent of Mass Timber.
This webinar will be conducted by Tom Chung, FAIA. Tom has extensive experience in the research, development and practical application of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) in building construction. In this presentation, he will share with us his recently completed CLT projects and discuss the future potential of structural hardwood species in contemporary architecture.
This event is sponsored by American Hardwood Export Council.
