Description
Did you know that building and interior construction is a major source of global carbon emissions? Or that every time an office relocates or renovates, a huge amount of unwanted waste, equipment and furniture ends up in our landfills, when it could easily be repurposed or recycled?
Architectural material and furniture company JEB established Sustainable Office Solutions (SOS) to help businesses be a part of the solution and not the problem. SOS works with corporations and property management companies to facilitate a circular economy of office assets. The streamlined process is tailored to divert furniture waste from landfills. Data such as weight and carbon reduction from the project is then recorded in the impact report to support clients’ sustainability strategies and goals helping to strike a balance between businesses, social responsibility and the environment.
Thirty projects have already been successfully completed in the company’s first 10 months of operation, during which time more than 250 tons of office assets have been diverted from landfills in Hong Kong and Singapore, and almost 2,000 items of FF&E have been redistributed to local communities, schools and NGOs.
This webinar will introduce the program, explain how it works, compare traditional methods of furniture and construction material disposal versus the “circular” model, and explain how architects and designers can help promote more sustainable asset management to their clients to lessen the impact on our environment.
